Chevalier's PSG Exit? The Suzuki Loan Dilemma

Paris Saint-Germain faces a crucial decision regarding their goalkeeping department. While Matvey Safonov has solidified his position as the first-choice keeper under Luis Enrique, the future of Lucas Chevalier, acquired from Lille for a significant sum, remains uncertain as he has gradually fallen down the pecking order. Adding another layer to this is the interest in Parma's talented goalkeeper, Zion Suzuki, although progress on this front appears to have stalled.

The potential arrival of the Japanese goalkeeper could pave the way for Chevalier's departure. However, the intended destination for Suzuki poses a problem. Reports suggest that PSG planned to purchase Suzuki and then loan him to Juventus for a season, without including a buy-out option.

This arrangement could facilitate the goalkeeper's development but might create instability within the Parisian squad.

Letting Chevalier Go Would Create a Void

If Chevalier were to leave Paris simultaneously, Luis Enrique would be left with Safonov as his sole experienced option. Therefore, Chevalier's situation cannot be evaluated independently of Suzuki's future.

An Investment Not to Be Devalued

Chevalier was brought in during the summer of 2025 to inherit a significant responsibility and become the starting goalkeeper for a new era. PSG invested approximately 40 million euros plus bonuses, signing him to a contract extending until 2030. While his first season didn't fully meet expectations, the goalkeeper is only 24 years old and possesses considerable qualities. He boasts strong reflexes, confidence, and good technique in build-up play, attributes particularly valued by Luis Enrique. Selling him now could mean accepting a valuation lower than the investment made just twelve months prior. Consequently, PSG risks parting ways too soon with a young player while simultaneously weakening the depth of their goalkeeping department.

Chevalier's Loan as a Potential Compromise

An alternative solution could be to loan Chevalier himself. This would provide the Frenchman with an opportunity to regain form and confidence, while PSG would retain control of his contract.

However, even this scenario would only make sense if Suzuki were available to Luis Enrique. Sending both keepers away from Paris would force the club to re-enter the market to find a backup for Safonov.
