Eddie Hearn Exposes Dana White and Zuffa Boxing

Dana White faces numerous adversaries, and his relationship with boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, once strong, has significantly deteriorated.

Zuffa Boxing, a new entrant in the boxing world, promised innovative methods and a fresh perspective on the sport. However, this vision, introduced through several announcements over the past year, has met with considerable criticism.

Eddie Hearn, the British sports promoter and chairman of Matchroom Boxing, has become the latest figure to publicly criticize Dana White and Zuffa Boxing. Hearn was particularly displeased with White's remarks comparing competition against veteran promoters, like himself, to "beating up babies."

Responding to White's statements, Hearn noted, "While I wouldn't go that far, Dana has consistently praised our company and me as a promoter. Therefore, his assertion that I lack vision is quite perplexing."

Hearn aggressively questioned Zuffa Boxing's supposed vision: "What exactly is their vision? Is it having Max Kellerman declare Callum Walsh the next Roy Jones, or showcasing Charles Martin in a main event on a Sunday evening before a tiny audience of 126 in a makeshift garage arena that resembles a low-tier club event? What kind of vision is that?"

Dana White has explicitly stated his intention for his new promotion to diverge from conventional boxing sanctioning bodies.

Zuffa Boxing recently unveiled its exclusive world title, accessible only to fighters within its stable. White aims to establish proprietary championships and a self-sufficient ranking system, much like the UFC's model, rather than collaborating with established organizations such as the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO. This approach has sparked considerable debate within the boxing community.

Hearn continued, sarcastically remarking, "Oh, look, a belt! That's Zuffa's 'vision.' But that isn't vision; it's about control. White claims we can't compete, but in reality, they are the ones unable or unwilling to compete in the brutal landscape of professional boxing. They prefer to construct their own insulated environment."

He concluded this point bluntly, stating, "Frankly, when comparing Matchroom's events to Zuffa's current offerings, Zuffa's shows are utterly dreadful."

Despite his harsh criticism, Hearn conceded that Zuffa Boxing would likely improve. He predicted that the company's owners would invest heavily to attract top fighters but maintained that they currently lack the quality to genuinely captivate fans.

"They will get better and sign significant fighters," Hearn acknowledged. "They will spend, and perhaps waste, a lot of money. I've always said they are intelligent individuals."

He cautioned, "However, they are currently attempting to mislead boxing enthusiasts. They underestimate the intelligence of fight fans. One cannot simply assemble mediocre cards and claim they feature 'the best vs. the best' when that is clearly not the case."

The verbal exchange escalated further when Hearn retaliated against White's dismissive comment that he was merely Barry Hearn's son.

Hearn shot back, "Yes, I work for my father. But Dana White also worked for his 'daddies' – the Fertita brothers – for a considerable period. Now, White has a new 'daddy,' Turki Alalshikh, to whom he must defer. As a boxing promoter, he is, frankly, at the very bottom in terms of quality."
