FIGC Presidential Candidates Back Conte as Leading Choice for Italy Coach
Antonio Conte has emerged as the primary candidate to become the new head coach of the Italian national team, securing support from potential FIGC (Italian Football Federation) presidential candidates Giovanni Malagò and Giancarlo Abete.
The Napoli manager, Conte, is viewed as a key figure to lead the national squad after the current coach.
Why Conte is the Favorite to Become Italy's New Coach
Reports indicate that leaders Malagò and Abete, who are expected to be among the contenders for the FIGC presidency, consider Conte the ideal choice.
The election for the new president of the Italian Football Federation is scheduled for June 22. Until then, the two upcoming Azzurri matches in June will be managed by an interim coach.
As previously reported, both Abete and Malagò believe Conte is the optimal candidate to guide the Azzurri towards qualification for Euro 2028 and future successes.
Currently, not all candidates for the FIGC presidency have been officially disclosed, and neither 67-year-old Malagò nor 75-year-old Abete have confirmed their intention to run. However, according to multiple sources, they are among the main contenders, despite rumors about the possible involvement of Azzurri legends such as Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Del Piero, and Demetrio Albertini in the presidential race.
Among other potential candidates besides Conte, Massimiliano Allegri is also mentioned.
Conte's contract with Napoli at the Stadio Maradona runs until June 2027. However, Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has already stated his willingness to release the Italian tactician to take over the Azzurri national team.
